As a job coach, I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of job seekers. My clients range in education level, years of experience, and come from a variety of industries. Based on my experience with all of these job seekers, my conclusion is that very few people conduct their job search in an effective way. Most put together a standard resume and cover letter, and spend most of their time searching the online job ads. They do not stray far off the path forged by the many job seekers before them. The results are predictable- some get lucky, but most have to wait months, or even years before receiving that elusive job offer.
If you are a job seeker, this is good news. It means that by working smart instead of just working hard, you can effectively make yourself stand out from your competition. Your secret advantage is that you are learning from their mistakes. Let’s begin.
